Eureka to San Francisco Area Bicycle Trip 2024

June 20-28 2024

Challenge Yourself, Change the World!

Join WeGetWater.org on this challenging 335 mile road bike adventure from Eureka to the San Francisco Area. This epic 7-8 day bicycle ride includes:

  • Pedaling through the redwoods along Avenue of the Giants

  • Outstanding coastal scenery of Mackerricher and Manchester State Beaches

  • The coastal sand dunes of Bodega, and scenic Marin County and Bay Area!

This Bike Trip benefits WeGetWater.org (WGW) and their mission to provide clean drinking water to the world’s poorest villages. All participants are asked to give a $1,000.00 suggested donation to WeGetWater.org. WGW uses 100% of all donations to fund water projects. This fundraiser will be directed toward a village in Ghana. We have completed 17 wells so far…on our way to 100!

Because of the challenging nature of this trip, only experienced cyclists in very good condition will be considered for this trip. We will probably not have a support vehicle for this trip unless one of us arranges something with a friend between now and June. This means we need to carry everything with us for the trip, buying food and meals along the way. The group that comes together will decide if we are staying in a hotel every night or if we will primarily camp along the way. I personally prefer camping with a hotel room utilized every few nights or when it rains.

Our typical daily ride will start early with a self supplied breakfast and cover 50-65 miles leaving time for enjoying side trips along the way. These excursions may include hikes in the redwoods, along rivers or to swim in waterfalls.

Itinerary: The specific itinerary is a work in progress subject to change along the way. We will be riding southward typically 50-65 miles per day for about 7-8 days. We have an extra day built into the itinerary just in case. This gives us flexibility as we travel to enjoy some side trips. Participants must be ok with this flexibility, be committed to staying together as we ride and be ok with group decisions as we go. Typically consensus is easily found on trips like this but ultimately all participants must be willing to follow the direction of the group leader, Aaron Reinicke.

Expenses (Estimated/person)

In addition to the $1,000 suggested donation:

Transportation: Each participant will be responsible for their travel costs and arrangements to and from the bicycle trip. Some participants may choose to travel together if it works for their schedules.

Accommodations: A discussion will be had among participants if this will be a motel trip or primarily a camping trip with a night or two in motels along the way. If we share hotel rooms, the cost would probably be $75-125/night per person. Camping could be as inexpensive as $10-15/person per night.

Food: All of these expenses are yours. Aaron typically packs enough food for simple breakfasts and snacks for the entire trip. We will make a lunch stop each day along the way. Dinner in a restaurant will probably coincide with the evening stop at the motel or campsite.

Zimbabwe Wells Project 2024 https://wegetwater.org/zimbabwe-wells-project-2024/ Tue, 30 Apr 2024 20:37:32 +0000 https://wegetwater.org/?p=3284

It’s that time of year again… time for building a well to provide clean water for more Lemba villages in Zimbabwe. Last May many of us Walked for Water on Mission Bay in San Diego. Our combined efforts resulted in a well in two different villages for our Jewish brothers and sisters. How many wells can we drill this year?

Because of the ongoing monthly generosity of just five people, we have a head start on this year’s project. We want to do at least three wells this year. Just over half of this year’s first well has already been committed!

What you can do to support our efforts this year:

  • Make a one time donation by clicking here

  • Join The Source, our monthly giving community here

  • Send this link out by text, email, or social media and encourage your friends to jump in.

  • Send this link to your family making this a shared family project.

  • Support Aaron Reinicke and other bicycle riders as they bike through the Redwoods from Eureka south to the Bay Area to support this 2024 Zimbabwe Wells Project. You can join us as a rider, van driver or financial supporter. More info here.

  • Come Saturday, June 15 at 10:30am to Kerilat Ariel (KA) and hear Aaron Reinicke share more fully about WeGetWater.org and the Zimbabwe Project.

Cancel Church for Clean Water https://wegetwater.org/cancel-church-for-clean-water/ Sun, 01 Jan 2023 14:49:22 +0000 https://wegetwater.org/?p=2811 On Sunday, January 1, 2023 Park Hill Church in San Diego canceled their services and instead encouraged their people to get out in the community and support 1 of 4 non profits in the area.

WeGetWater is grateful to be one of the chosen ones of Park Hill’s generosity!

The church organized a hike of Iron Mountain and just under $2000 was raised for our latest well in Kenya.

Thanks to all of you who donated and those who braved the rain to participate!

Classrooms for Clean Water! https://wegetwater.org/classrooms-for-clean-water/ Mon, 12 Dec 2022 14:51:46 +0000 https://wegetwater.org/?p=2814 Recently the 3rd graders of room 10 at Fletcher Hills Elementary School were challenged by their teacher Stacy Bartlett to donate money toward a well in Kenya.
They responded by baking cookies, doing chores for grandma, giving away their birthday money among other acts of generosity.
The total was a whopping $467.36!
If 20 other classrooms jump in and were as successful, another well could be built just from these efforts.
Then another village would be changed for generations to come.
Way to inspire us room 10!

Dr. Richard Hyong-Do Lee Memorial Well https://wegetwater.org/dr-richard-hyong-do-lee-memorial-well/ Mon, 17 Oct 2022 21:29:01 +0000 https://wegetwater.org/?p=1733 $5,500 raised in memory of Richard Lee to transform a village in Kenya.

Dr. Richard Hyong-Do Lee

March 25, 1958 – October 12, 2022

A message from Aaron J. Reinicke, We Get Water.

Richard Lee, a physician in New Hampshire for the past 30 years, was a dear friend of mine and WeGetWater.org. His unexpected and premature death was a shock. In the too short 1 ½ years I knew him, I came to quickly know we were a lot alike.  We enjoy the outdoors and pushing ourselves to be fit physically, relationally and spiritually. We hiked rim to rim in the Grand Canyon with a small group to raise money for a well in Africa and he contributed greatly to that project.

Richard was a very committed family man to his wife Soojin, their son Isaiah, their daughter Sylvie, her husband Kyle and their two children Yenna and Junoh.

The first well project to honor Richard’s memory was in the country of Kenya where he made several mission trips to serve those in need. This is consistent with his passion to help others, his inherent kindness, and his lifelong faith in Christ. His life was a living example of the Bible verse Ephesians 4:32 – “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ”.

About this event

Join us for the 5K and let’s put a well in Rwanda and Ghana. Kuri, the Reinicke’s adopted Ethiopian daughter, regularly carried dirty water long distances back to her village when she was only 4 years old. On October 15th, we are doing the 5K for clean water so other children won’t have to walk for dirty water. Join us and
