We believe everyone in the world deserves
clean water. Lets make this happen!

Dirty water is a huge problem affecting over 780 million people. We offer
the opportunity for individual donors to fund an entire water project.
100% of all donations go to creating a well.

Sponsoring a Water Project

1. What is the average cost of a well project? Great question. Answer is…it varies! A number of factors contribute to it a) location, depth, range of programming (all activities included in the “cost” to make is sustainable); also, is it simple handpump, submersible (and what type); how powered (solar array, electric source), is there a holding tank with pipe stands; is it a piped extension with additional filtration and chlorination? Current sponsorship levels:

  • $6500 S. Asia
  • $10,000 Central America/Haiti/Peru
  • $20,000 Central America/Haiti/Africa countries

2. What is the upper limit cost of a well project? Example $250,000 for extensive Uganda system with 15km of pipes to 11 communities and multiple tap stands in each location. Current example Mexico $150k with approx. 200 taps at household level

3. How long does the average well project take to complete in months? Actual drilling, construction, piping etc anywhere from 3 days to a month.  Does not include months before and after support and communication /training etc

4. Where does the money go? Per Aaron, list projects with approx. cost for each type. And, ”if I did $50k where would it go?” (encourage larger gifts)

Maybe 4-5 examples and then a short 1 sentence description of each. (I can expand or shorten the wording as needed.)

$6500 Project (South Asia)

  • Borehole with hand pump; rural community
  • Serves generally 150-300 people
  • Includes sanitation & hygiene training and community engagement activities

$10,000 project (Central America, Haiti, Peru)

  • Similar to the South Asia projects with a drilled borehole and hand pump
  • Includes same sanitation & hygiene + community mobilization activities but with some additional engagement timelines and activities

$20,000 project

  • These can vary a bit, from a very remote borehole drilled well with a hand pump, up to simple electric submersibles.
  • Typically fall within our (WPA) WASH Program Area work, that is holistic community care over a 5-7 year period with ongoing interaction and behavioral change reinforcement with community leaders.

Complex Project Kenya (example approx. $50k)

  • Included drilling borehole well at a local church with electric submersible pump powered by solar array into a holding tank; then, 600 meters piped to a local school.
  • The piping to the school supplies water to tap stands + handwashing stations (and possibly latrines)

  • OTHER Examples of higher cost project components
  • Holding tanks
  • Tap stands / faucets from piped network
  • Latrines
